Skills shortage in Germany after the Corona crisis

— Press release —

Not only the Corona crisis, but also the shortage of skilled workers is affecting the country's economy. The demand for qualified employees in Germany has become higher again. Many German companies are looking for the specialists who are hard to find on the national labour market.

The Federal Government Commissioner for Integration, Annette Widmann-Mauz, has warned of a skilled workers’ migration shortage due to the Corona crisis from the European Union to Germany. "Our economy is desperately looking for skilled personnel," said the CDU politician. In June 2021, the German economy lacked 270,000 qualified women and men. Another reason that causes such a problem is a difficult demographic situation in the country.

According to the magazine "Handelsblatt", there are 14,000 vacancies at Dax companies, although small and medium-sized companies are more hit than bigger ones. Mostly the IT, technology and data experts, as well as engineers and employees with medical and scientific backgrounds are in demand.

According to Der Spiegel, the shortage of skilled workers threatens all sectors of the economy: However, the construction (25.5%), manufacturing (19.4 %), trade (15.9 %) and service (26.4 %) industries have the highest percentage of the affected companies. (Source: Handelsblatt, der Spiegel)
