IT-Specialists in the Corona time: Solution for the business efficiency or a chance for businesses to survive

The Corona crisis has clearly shown, that the business world has to adapt to the digital progress. According to Kirill Zalessky (Director of the international communication department at Hi-Tech Park Belarus), the Corona is not a crisis for the IT industry, but a chance for further development. He is sure that the Corona crisis gave a new boost to the digitalization. Like Germany Belarus is an exporting country, where the IT industry generates 3,5 percent of the GDP. 1,4 percent of Belarussian employees work in this perspective and high developed industry.

If any IT problem occurs, the customers in Belarus can find the best solution within 45 minutes.

Hi-Tech Park (HTP) Belarus, known as the “Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe”, is a government project launched to support and develop the IT industry. HTP provides not only tax benefits and flexible working arrangements in Belarus, but also high technical education standard. Belarus also benefits from its convenient geographical position. The goal of the project is to help the poor young specialists find a well-paid job in Belarus after their graduation. Furthermore, the Hi-Tech Park focuses on export and is currently a regional leader in the export of software and computer services. According to Kirill Zalessky, in 2019 the Hi-Tech Park Belarus exported services made 2.2 billion US dollars turnover, which is more than 20 percent of the country’s turnover in the services sector. Mr. Zalessky states that in the first quarter of 2020 HTP had a 47 percent increase in exports, although many companies reduced their IT costs. One of the most successful projects of the Park is its main resident - EPAM. This is the only Belarusian company listed on the New York Stock Exchange with the share price risen 15 times since 2012. Moreover, the Belarusian products are world-famous, for example, the computer game “World of Tanks”, the messenger service Viber, which has around 900 million users in 193 countries around the world, or SayGames a 20-person company mobile game publisher. Belarus tends to be the center of the IT industry in the post-Soviet space. The immigration of IT specialists from other CIS-countries speeds up this process. While the market in Germany seems empty, you can find a lot of qualified IT developers in Belarus.
